Ojiya-chijimi Asa kimono
Age: Ca. Early 1900's
Material: Very fine asa linen
Texture/Technique: hand-woven pattern, Kasuri, sucker-like texture
Design/Motif: abstract vertical design
Main Colors: olive green/brown, textured gray
Condition: There is a small repair on the edge of the left sleeve (please see the image). The repair is approximately 5/8" size. As you wear or hang it, it is almost invisible.
Notes/Remarks: This lovely summer asa-linen kimono is from current Niigata area, formerly called Echigo. Ojiya-chijimi which this textured linen textile is called is one of the finest asa textiles the area has been producing until now. This particular kimono has a very subdued appearance in terms of its color and design. It was assumed to be worn by a relatively older age woman. Wearing a summer kimono like this is certainly luxurious elegance.
