Notes/Remarks: This is one of the finest types of a summer asa kimono, 'jofu', for men. The kimono is assumed to be made in Satsuma area (current Kagoshima prefecture), according to the pattern on the kimono. It looks a very simple pattern, yet the production of this type of textile takes an enormous amount of calculations and skills from the beginning to the end. The texture of this asa-linen is so smooth and soft as if it is made from silk. The subtle sheer surface is also uniquely attributing to this type of fine linen.
