This elegant men's juban (undergarment) is probably from the early to mid Showa era (1926-1988). The exterior of the juban is made from fine silk and it is depicted with a collage-like composition of various designs. The main design is a country scene of a sumie painting, a Japanese black ink painting. A humble country hut is located along a hillside and there are some birds flying in the peaceful sky. There are two poetry writings around the painting and also small abstract designs in different early tones. The dominant colors on the exterior of the juban are black, gray, and grayish-brown. The collar of the juban is lined with black silk. The interior of the juban is fully lined with ivory silk. It is in excellent condition.
