This dynamically designed formal tomesode is probably from the mid 1900's. The kimono is made from fine chirimen silk and it depicts a stunning design of a treasure-boat (takara-bune) in the ocean. The design continues from the left to the right at the bottom and the boat has a bountiful of treasures on the top (very auspicious symbol). The entire design was executed by Kyoto Yuzen hand-painting technique and some motifs were outlined by gold color. The dominant colors you find on the kimono are tortoise blue, brick and pumpkin oranges, and ivory against the black background. The kimono has a red lining and five family crests in the front and the back. There are a few small water spots at the bottom of the kimono, otherwise it is in excellent condition. This particular kimono, with this very distinguished design, might have been own by a geisha, according to kimono experts in Japan. The dimensions are:
Width (Sleeve to Sleeve): approximately 47.5"
Length: approximately 60"
Sleeve Length: approximately 23"
Body Width: approximately 26.5"
