A classic Japanese aesthetic of the Meiji era is found on this maru obi. A simply repeated pattern of fan and chrysanthemum, and water-like motif is almost iridescent, despite of such deep and dark colors. The rich espresso brown underscores the obi while mat/rustic gold is effectively used to accent the overall impression. It is truly an elegant obi. Ca. Late 1800s to Early 1900s.
